On September 9th, the company signed an order with Qatar Energy LNG Company in Shanghai to construct six of the world's largest 271000 cubic meter ultra large LNG carriers. Saad Sherida Al Arabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of Qatar Energy, Khalid Al Thani, CEO of Qatar Energy LNG, Chen Jie, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai, Zhuang Mudi, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Municipal Government, Li Jun, Deputy Secretary and District Chief of Chongming District Committee, Rong Zhiqin, Deputy Director of Shanghai Economic and Information Technology Commission, Wu Zhaozhong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Executive Deputy Director of Changxing Island Management Committee, Jia Haiying, Chief Accountant of China Shipbuilding Group, Hu Kai, General Manager of China Shipbuilding Industry and Trade Co., Ltd., Chen Jianliang, Chairman of the Board, and Weng Hongbing, General Manager of the company attended the signing ceremony.

This is the second time that the two parties have joined hands and signed a new order, following the signing of the construction contract for 18 ships of this type, which is known as the "century's largest order", in Beijing on April 29th this year. Thus, the company has secured a total of 24 orders for 271000 cubic meters of ultra large LNG ships, firmly establishing its position as an innovative leader in the global ultra large LNG field.

The world's largest 271000 cubic meter ultra large LNG ship

This type of ship was independently developed and designed by Hudong Zhonghua, and obtained the principle recognition (AiP) certificate issued by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LR), Bureau Veritas (BV), DNV, and China Classification Society (CCS) in September 2023. This is the world's largest LNG carrier to date, which means that China's research and development, design, and construction of LNG carriers have officially entered the field of ultra large ships. It also marks a big step forward for China's high-end ship research and development and design capabilities towards the world's leading goal.

The ship has a total length of 344 meters, a width of 53.6 meters, a depth of 27.2 meters, and a designed draft of 12 meters. It adopts dual fuel low-speed engine propulsion and NO96 Super+enclosure system, designed according to the latest global shipping concepts, and has five outstanding features:

Ma "X" capacity (maximum cabin capacity). Adopting a 5-cabin design with compact dimensions. The world's largest container capacity of 271000 cubic meters has increased the carrying capacity of conventional large LNG ships by 57% compared to 174000 cubic meters.

E "X" cell performance. Adopting multi-objective optimization for the dual stern fin design, it has excellent speed. Equipped with the latest generation of cargo containment system, the evaporation rate is lower. The energy consumption of transporting goods by sea per ton is reduced by 9.9% compared to 174000 cubic meters of LNG ships.

E "X" tra safety (high additional safety). The liquid tank adopts enhanced insulation modules, is equipped with real-time sway monitoring system, and the hull is equipped with stress monitoring and anti-collision system, providing multiple guarantees and aviation grade safety and reliability.

FLE "X" is capable of flexible operation. Equipped with a powerful re liquefaction system and shaft reverse assist system, it has flexible operation. Its carbon emission intensity (CII) is 23% lower than that of a 174000 cubic meter LNG ship, and it can flexibly match various operational intervals on different routes.

E "X" city compatibility. Although it is the largest LNG ship, its diversified optimized draft and loading design can reach more than 70 shore stations on all continents around the world, covering major mainstream routes, and has excellent ship shore compatibility.

As of now, Qatar Energy Company has ordered two batches of over 120 new ships from four global shipping companies. Among them, the company has undertaken a total of 12 orders for 174000 cubic meters of large LNG ships and 24 orders for 271000 cubic meters of ultra large LNG ships, ranking first among shipyards in the world in terms of contract amount or gas capacity, achieving a historic breakthrough from following and leading.
