On April 15th, the world's first and largest 24000TEU class liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual fuel powered ultra large container ship "Dafei Seine River" built by Hudong Zhonghua for France's Dafei Group was signed and delivered at the company's western factory on Changxing Island. This marks a new breakthrough for China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation in the field of world super large dual fuel container ships, further highlighting its first mover advantage. Especially in building an advanced and efficient manufacturing system with independent research and development, design, construction, and supporting facilities, further enhancing China's voice and competitiveness in the global shipbuilding industry.
24000TEU dual fuel container ship
This ship is the world's latest "Green Cargo King" and "Sea Giant" tailored by Hudong Zhonghua for the French Dafei Group, following the successful construction of a 23000TEU dual fuel container ship. This type of ship has a total length of 399 meters, a width of 61.3 meters, a depth of 33.5 meters, and a designed draft of 14.5 meters. It can carry 220000 tons of goods, accommodate 23876 containers at a time, and can carry 2200 standard refrigerated containers. The maximum number of stacking layers is 24, equivalent to a height of 25 floors.
As the world's largest dual fuel container ship, the ship's biggest feature is having a unique "green heart" - the 18600 cubic meter MARK III membrane fuel tank, which can provide "green power" for the ship's single voyage of nearly 20000 nautical miles with LNG loaded. Meanwhile, adopting LNG powered design can meet the world's most stringent emission requirements. Compared with ships with the same type of fuel tanks, this ship reduces carbon dioxide emissions by about 20%, nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 85%, particulate matter and sulfur oxide emissions by 99%, greatly reducing environmental pollution.
It is worth mentioning that compared with the 23000TEU dual fuel container first ship "Dafei Yaksade" delivered by Hudong Zhonghua in September 2020, this ship has five major advantages. One is to further improve the loading capacity, by reasonably distributing the stacking weight, to achieve the loading of 764 standard containers; Secondly, oil and gas consumption has been further reduced. Under the continuous power (NCR) state of the main engine, fuel consumption has decreased from 239.1 tons/day to 231.4 tons/day, and gas consumption has decreased from 193.2 tons/day to 182.8 tons/day. The energy efficiency index (EEDI) has met the requirements of the third stage of international standards ahead of schedule; Thirdly, to comply with the newly effective SOLAS regulations, a large compartment water ingress alarm system should be installed in the cargo hold to ensure the safety of cargo transportation; Fourthly, the safety performance has been comprehensively improved. Mobile water cannons are equipped on the deck, extra long water cannons are added to the engine room shed and superstructure roof, and the cargo hold is equipped with water immersion and sprinkler systems, which can comprehensively respond to fire risks; The fifth is the adjustment and optimization of cabin layout. The entire ship's cabin adopts noise reduction measures such as high soundproof doors and high soundproof floors to create a more comfortable living space for the crew.
Including this ship, Hudong Zhonghua has delivered 17 container ships to Dafei Group, including 12 dual fuel container ships. In the construction of this ship, Hudong Zhonghua fully implemented lean management and made every effort to promote new digital construction processes. The integrity of the dock, gas filling cycle, and total construction cycle all set new historical records, achieving the established goals of scientific planning, lean construction, and improving quality and efficiency. It has contributed a more environmentally friendly and efficient new generation of maritime equipment to the international shipping market and played an important demonstration role in promoting the green and sustainable development of the global shipping industry.
The ship is scheduled to enter the Asia Europe route on April 18th.
