On January 15th, the 174000 cubic meter large liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport ship "Limel" built by the company for Qatar Energy LNG Company was named four months in advance at the new plant area of Changxing Phase II. This is the fourth ship of the same type delivered by the company for the completion of the "100 Ship Project" for LNG, and also the first ship named in 2025, marking the company's sounding of a new wave of LNG capacity doubling horn.
Godmother Haraguchi Arimi named the new ship and cut the cables. Masataro Tamura, Executive Officer of Mitsui Banking Corporation, and Chi Benbin, Deputy General Manager of the company, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Chi Benbin presented flowers to his godmother, and Huang Huabing, the deputy chief builder of LNG, presided over the naming ceremony. The "Limel" vessel is the fourth vessel undertaken by the company to undertake the first batch of orders for the "Hundred Ships Project" of KAQI. Through innovative optimization of process and construction methods, the company fully promotes digital construction, continuously improves lean production, and achieves a shorter total construction cycle from one vessel to another. The second vessel is 76 days shorter than the first vessel, the third vessel is 20 days shorter than the second vessel, and the fourth vessel is 34 days shorter than the third vessel. In 4 months and 5 days, the company achieved high-quality delivery of 4 ships, demonstrating the "Chinese speed" of LNG ship construction and receiving praise from ship owners.
This ship is the fifth generation "Changheng Series" 174000m3 LNG ship independently developed and designed by the company. It is specially tailored in accordance with the technical standards of Qatar Energy Corporation for operating the world's largest LNG fleet. It integrates the latest design concept, the best technical equipment, the strongest environmental performance, the most forward-looking, and the essence of Hudong Chinese LNG ship design. It has a total length of 299 meters, a width of 46.4 meters, and a depth of 26.25 meters. It adopts the latest generation of dual stern fin design and is equipped with multiple low-carbon and digital technologies and equipment. It is classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the China Classification Society (CCS).
Limel "is the first liquefied natural gas ship built with the participation of the Third Assembly Department. During the construction period, the department organized technical backbone to conduct in-depth learning, fully drawing on the construction experience of sister departments, optimizing production plans, preparing 120 key quality risk points, actively using lean management tools, comprehensively implementing the real name system for each stage of work, completing construction with high quality, and achieving the goal of early delivery.
2024 is a year of record breaking for the company. Through lean management, unified planning and key promotion, and the use of four ships in parallel and semi connected construction mode in the dock, the LNG ship production capacity doubling plan was completed with high quality. Eight LNG ships were delivered within the year, setting a Chinese record and achieving a historic breakthrough in the quality and efficiency of LNG ship construction in China from "following to leading".
2025 will be the year of centralized delivery of LNG ships for the company, with plans to complete and deliver more than 10 large LNG ships throughout the year, driving China's LNG production capacity to new heights. In order to achieve this goal, the company has formed a new production pattern of 2 large factories and 3 dock production lines, and has also built 19 LNG ships. The quantification, rhythm, and standardization of LNG ship batches have become the norm.
