On September 5th, at the Gastech 2023 conference held in Singapore, the company developed a design plan for a 271000 cubic meter ultra large liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport ship, which was also awarded a Principal Recognition (AIP) certificate by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LR), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), and French Bureau of Shipping (BV) international four major classification societies. This is the largest LNG transport ship developed and designed globally to date, indicating that China's LNG ship research and development, design, and construction have leapt from large-scale to ultra large fields, marking a significant step forward in China's high-end ship research and design capabilities towards the world's leading goal.
Du Gang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Director of China Shipbuilding Group, Wang Yongliang, Director of the Marine Engineering Department, Wu Aijun, Deputy General Manager of China Shipbuilding Trading Company, Song Wei, Chief Engineer of the company, and presidents of the four major classification societies attended the ceremony.
271000 cubic meters of LNG ship design with outstanding features of 5 "X"
This type of LNG carrier has the strongest carrying capacity in the field of "Big Mac", with a total length of 344 meters, a width of 53.6 meters, a depth of 27.2 meters, a design draft of 12 meters, and a dual fuel low-speed engine propulsion and NO96 Super+enclosure system. Designed according to the latest global shipping concept, with outstanding features of 5 "X":
01 Ma"X" capacity
Adopting a 5-compartment plan with a compact scale. The world's largest tank capacity of 271000 cubic meters is 57% higher than the conventional 174000 cubic meters of large LNG ships.
02 e“X”cellent performance
Adopting multi-objective optimization for the twin stern fin shape, it has excellent speed. Equipped with the latest generation of cargo containment system, the evaporation rate is lower. The energy consumption for transporting goods per ton of sea is 9.9% lower than that of 174000 cubic meters of LNG ships.
03 e"X"trasafety
The liquid tank adopts an enhanced insulation module, equipped with a real-time sway monitoring system, stress monitoring and collision prevention system for the hull, providing multiple guarantees and aviation level safety and reliability.
04 fle"X"ibleoperation
Equipped with a powerful re liquefaction system and axial reverse propulsion system, it is flexible to operate; The carbon emission intensity CII is 23% lower than that of 174000 cubic meters of LNG ships, which can flexibly match various operating ranges of different routes.
05 e"X"citingcompatibility
Although it is the largest LNG ship, its diversified optimized draft and stowage design can reach over 70 shore stations on various continents worldwide, covering major mainstream routes, and has excellent ship shore compatibility.
At present, the global LNG trade is booming in supply and demand, with significant growth in LNG exports from the Middle East and North America. China's LNG imports are also showing a trend of rapid growth year by year. Therefore, the company has successfully developed this 271000 cubic meter ultra large LNG transport ship with the title of "world champion", filling the demand gap with a single ship's large capacity and meeting market expectations.
The 270000 cubic meter LNG ship can transport 155 million cubic meters of natural gas at once, providing a month's worth of gas for 4.7 million households in Shanghai. Without expanding the terminal berth at the receiving terminal, the receiving capacity of the terminal will be significantly improved, which will effectively ensure the continuous growth of China's LNG import demand. Therefore, developing ultra large LNG ships is undoubtedly the best solution for economy, efficiency, and innovation, and is expected to lead a new round of revolution in the world of LNG ships.
LNG transport ships are recognized as one of the most difficult to build ship types in the world, and are "super refrigerated vehicles" that carry LNG at minus 163 degrees Celsius, known as the "jewel in the crown" of the world shipbuilding industry. As the first shipping enterprise in China to have the ability to independently design and build large LNG transport ships with actual ship delivery performance, the company is also the only shipping enterprise in the world that can simultaneously build two types of LNG ships, NO96 and MARK III. It has delivered more than 40 various types of LNG transport ships (equipment) in total. At present, there are nearly 50 orders for handheld LNG ships, and the production task has been scheduled until 2028.
The company has been deeply involved in the LNG industry for 26 years, from offshore (174000 cubic meters of LNG ships) to offshore (80000 cubic meters of LNG ships), from inland (14000 cubic meters of LNG transportation and refueling ships) to inland (land LNG storage tanks), from small, medium, and large to the super large LNG ships awarded the AIP certificate, once again providing efficient and low-carbon innovative solutions to the global offshore LNG industry chain, forming a full range and coverage of high-end LNG products, Becoming the true "chain leader" of the entire LNG industry chain in China.
